Look, we didn't start Black Spire Haven to be just another cookie-cutter gym. Back in 2018, I was tired of seeing folks waste their time on treadmills going nowhere or following programs that just weren't cutting it.
What began in a stripped-down warehouse space on Granville has grown into something real - a place where people actually push past what they thought was possible. We're not about fluff or quick fixes. It's all high-intensity work, proper coaching, and results you can see and feel.
Every session here is built around one thing: making you better than yesterday. Whether you're an athlete chasing podiums or someone who's just done with being out of shape, we've got your back.
Building something real takes time
Started with 800 square feet, some barbells, and a vision. Just me and twelve founding members who believed we could build something different. No fancy equipment yet - just hard work and determination.
Brought on two more coaches who actually knew their stuff. Started running proper CrossFit classes and strength programs. Word got around, and we outgrew that first space faster than expected.
Yeah, that year hit everyone hard. We pivoted to outdoor sessions in the rain and online coaching. Lost some members but the core crew stuck around. Learned we were building a real community here, not just a business.
Moved to our current 3,500 sq ft facility on Granville. Added specialized equipment for athletic performance training. Launched our nutrition coaching program because you can't out-train a bad diet - learned that the hard way.
Our athletes started placing at regional competitions. Added performance testing and sports-specific training protocols. The reputation we built brought in pro athletes looking for serious training partners.
Seven years in and we're still grinding. Over 200 members, eight coaches on staff, and a waiting list for personal training slots. But we haven't forgotten where we started - it's still about the work, not the hype.

Our coaches aren't just counting reps. They've been where you are and know what it takes to get where you're going. Real experience, real knowledge, zero BS.
We track everything because feelings don't count - numbers do. Whether it's pounds lifted, seconds shaved, or body comp changes, you'll know exactly where you stand.
High-intensity doesn't mean reckless. We push hard but we do it right. Proper form, smart progression, and knowing when to back off keeps you training for years, not weeks.
Leave your ego at the door. Everyone scales to their level, and there's no shame in that. The only thing that matters is showing up and putting in the work.
We've built a coaching team that actually knows what they're doing. No weekend certifications here - these are people who've competed, coached at high levels, and most importantly, understand that every athlete is different.
Our crew includes former competitive CrossFitters, powerlifters, Olympic lifting coaches, and sports nutritionists. Between us, we've got decades of experience in the trenches, not just reading textbooks.
